A Cool Hunting exclusive, we caught up with artist Jonathan Harris as he unveils his new project Universe, an artistic take on a system that explores modern mythology. He enlightened minds with his presentation at the TED conference last week and we visited him in Brooklyn to get an intimate look as he flips through his travelogue of time spent in Vietnam and Burma. We are also guided through We Feel Fine, a global study of human emotion using large-scale blog analysis, and he volunteers his creative thought process behind the piece. He also shares his view for the future of connectivity, why the page is no longer enough and his drive towards new formats of presentation and story telling.
This also marks Cool Hunting Video's debut in HD meaning improved picture quality and widescreen 16 by 9 formatting. Enjoy.

Click title of the post to see the video.

Our 65th video visits New York-based light sculptor Leo Villareal in his Chelsea studio a week before his third solo show in Manhattan inaugurates the new Gering & López gallery. Leo walks us through his latest three sculptures that he's exhibiting, including "Hive," an interactive piece, "Field," which is a massive sunset-like work of shifting colors and a piece like "Origin" based on Newtonian physics. We also get a peak at the custom software Leo uses to program his mesmerizing patterns of light and get a sampling of other large-scale outdoor installations he's completed.

M.I.T. Digital Drawing Board

Using hundreds of media examples, this video shows how the commercial takeover of public space, destruction of consumer choice, and replacement of real jobs with temporary work - the dynamics of corporate globalization - impact everyone, everywhere. Naomi Klein argues that globalization is a process whereby corporations discovered that profits lay not in making products, but in creating branded identities people adopt in their lifestyles.

All Access: The Making of Thirty Extraordinary Graphic Designers (Hardcover)

Book Description
All Access juxtaposes an edited selection of greatest hits from the masters of design with their pre-fame work. Author Stefan Bucher illustrates their visual history---the first pieces that made them stars, their transitional work, and the eventual breakthrough pieces that caused their names to be known around the world. Insightful text exploring mentors, education, and eureka moments complements this visual timeline. Bucher also profiles 15 of the most exciting upcoming design stars from around the globe. As with the masters, Bucher explores their roads to early success and highlights the work that is lifting these young designers into the spotlight.
To be inspired, we need to see the awkward early days, which illustrate that there is hope for everyone. Heroes do not spring forth fully formed; they take the same challenging road we all take; it's their decisions that set them apart. This book is an inspiration for any designer setting out on the path to greatness, as well as a fun read for those well into their careers.
Designers profiled are Neal Ashby, Anne Burdick, Margo Chase, Ed Fella, Tom Hingston, Allen Hori, Mirko Ilic, Eike König, Hideki Nakajima, Stefan Sagmeister, Paul Sahre, Paula Scher, Rick Valicenti, Pete Vattanatham, James Victore, Paul White, as well as Camillia Ben Bassat, Big Active, Deanne Cheuk, Angela Detanico and Rafael Lain, Kjell Ekhorn and Jon Forss, Evan Gaffney, Denise Gonzales Crisp, Kim Hiorthøy, Hjalti Karlsson and Jan Wilker, Valerie Kiock, Harmine Louwé, Rinzen, Fiel Valdez, and Martin Woodtli.

Eduardo Pla
